Article I
Name


The name of this organization will be: Mid-South Sport Riders, Incorporated.

Article II
General

Section 1
The purpose of this organization shall be to promote interest and enjoyment in sport and sport touring motorcycling for the benefit of the club's members.

Section 2
The club logo shall be the silhouette of the back of a motorcyclist on a generic sport bike leaning into a curve with the letters MSSR inlaid across at an angle.

Section 3
All money collected from dues and activities shall be turned over to the club treasury for the benefit of the club as a whole.

Article III
Membership

Section 1
Membership shall be open to anyone at least 18 years of age with an interest in sport riding, sanctioned road racing, and sport touring.

Section 2
While the main interest of the club is in sport oriented motorcycling, there are no restrictions based on type or brand of motorcycle owned. Members are not required to own a motorcycle; however members who ride motorcycles are expected to have a valid motorcycle operator's license.

Section 3
Dues shall be $24.00 (twenty-four dollars) per year, payable in January of each year. Individuals joining at various times during a calendar year shall pay a pro-rated amount in full of $2.00 (two dollars) per month for the remainder of the year until January renewal.

Section 4
Members are considered active upon payment of dues and entitled to all club benefits.

Section 5
Any member whose dues are delinquent for 90 days shall become inactive and will no longer be entitled to club benefits. Active membership will be reinstated once the member pays their dues in full for the year.

Section 6
Any member may be expelled from the club and lose all rights and benefits for unethical behavior and serious infractions. A meeting of a majority of the officers will be held to determine if the offense rises to the level of expulsion. If the officers agree, a hearing will be held allowing the member to explain the situation. Motions to expel a member from the club must be voted on and a simple majority will decide the outcome.

Article IV
Officers and Elections


Section 1
Officers must be members in good standing and be at least 21(twenty-one) years of age.

Elected Officers must be able to attend most MSSR meetings.
The President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer must be members of the American Motorcyclist Association. MSSR members who are not members of the AMA may be nominated for office with the understanding that they will join the AMA by the first meeting in January when the new officers officially take over.

Section 2
Nominations for new officers shall be made at the regular business meeting of each November. The subsequent election shall be held at the December business meeting. Officers so elected shall be installed at the business meeting in January, and shall hold office for one year or until their successors are elected. Elections may be conducted by voice vote or by secret ballot. The method of voting shall be chosen by the members in the December meeting.

1. Nominations shall be received from active members only.

2. Only active members may be nominated.

3. Voting shall be by active members only.

Section 3
In the event of a vacancy in elected office, a special election shall be held to fill the vacancy.

Section 4
No member shall be elected to more than one office.

Section 5
Officers and Duties

President:

It shall be the duty of the President to preside at all business meetings, be generally responsible for the meeting, and appoint special committees.

Vice-President:
The Vice-President shall assist the President in and
assume the duties in the event of the Presidents absence. The Vice-President shall also function as the legislative affairs officer and will keep the members informed of legislative issues pertaining to motorcyclists.

Secretary/Editor:
The Secretary/Editor shall record the minutes of each meeting and be responsible for publishing a monthly newsletter to contain a record of the meeting along with any correspondence or articles submitted by the members and posting the minutes to the members message forum. In addition, the Secretary will maintain the AMA and state charter requirements for the club and maintain annual documents or reports needed for this.

Treasurer:
The Treasurer shall collect all dues and assessments and handle all financial matters of the club. The Treasurer shall maintain a general ledger of club funds and expenses and shall provide a financial report at each meeting. The Treasurer shall also function as the referee and insurance communications officer for any AMA affiliated events sponsored by the club.

Sportswear Coordinator:
The Sportswear Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the club's supply of shirts, caps, and other collectable items endorsed by the club. The Sportswear Coordinator will bring the sportswear to club functions whenever possible and generally make merchandise available to club members wishing to purchase items. The Sportswear Coordinator will maintain an inventory record of these items and will turn over any money collected from the sale of these items to the club Treasurer.

Membership Coordinator:
The Membership Coordinator will help promote the club and will keep up with the membership list. This officer will help the Webmaster remove inactive members from the message forum.

Webmaster:
The webmaster will maintain our club website as well as administer our message forum.

Article V
Rules and Regulations


Section 1
Any club action requiring a vote will be voted upon only if a quorum is present. A quorum shall consist of ten members in good standing, two of which is shall be elected officers.

Section 2
Business meetings shall be held monthly at a time and place agreed upon by the members.

Section 3
All events and items requiring expenditure of club funds shall be approved by the members of the club at a regular scheduled meeting. If timing is an issue, a poll may be taken on the message forum, but the motion will only carry if ten members including two officers agree. Any elected officer can confer with the Treasurer and if they agree may spend up to $100 for incidental business expenses. The Treasurer shall disclose this expense at the next regular business meeting.

Section 4
Personal money spent by officers and members of the club on approved items and events shall be reimbursed by the Treasurer upon presentation of valid receipts for these expenditures.

Section 5
Any change to the Constitution and By-Laws requires 2(two) separate votes at 2(two) consecutive regular business meetings.

Section 6
The order of business at regular business meetings shall be as follows:

1. Call to order.
2. Introduction of visitors.
3. Reading of the minutes if requested.
4. Additions and corrections of the minutes if necessary.
5. Treasurer's report.
6. Unfinished business. (Any business not completed at previous meeting.)
7. New business.
8. Adjournment.

Article VI
Benefits and Activities


Section 1
The club shall have regularly scheduled group rides for the enjoyment of all members and guests of members. Dates, time of departure, and meeting locations shall be set by the club members at regular business meetings and be posted on the member’s message forum and club web site.

Section 2
Active members will granted access to the members on-line message forum to include the minutes of the previous business meeting and other articles of interest and message threads. Guest individuals or members of other organizations will be allowed access to the message forum if the members agree to allow them.

Section 3
Whenever possible the club shall have a designated hospitality location, booth, or tent at area motorcycle events.

Article VII
Safety


Section 1
The position of the club shall be to promote individual responsibility when it comes to motorcycle riding.

Section 2
Members are encouraged to ride in a safe, lawful, and courteous manner when on public streets. Individuals are encouraged to ride at a pace within their own comfort and skill level at all times.

Section 3
On group rides, the first rider shall stop at any intersections requiring a turn from the direction of travel. This is to allow all participants to catch up with the group. Each participant shall be responsible for seeing that the rider behind him is aware of route and direction changes.

Section 4
Participants on group rides are encouraged to ride in a staggered formation. Participants are encouraged to maintain at least a two second interval behind the rider in front of them.

Section 5
Members are encouraged to properly maintain their motorcycle and to conduct a safety check prior to riding in any club event.

Section 6
Members are encouraged to wear proper protective apparel when riding in any club event. This shall include but is not limited to:

  • A DOT approved helmet.
  • Proper eye protection.
  • A long sleeve shirt or riding jacket.
  • Long pants of heavy material such as denim or leather.
  • Gloves.
  • Over the ankle shoes or boots.
